New Features in CONVERGE 6.0

New Display Option

You can turn on a toggle option (by selecting Options from the Options Menu) that causes the Graph, Equation, and Table windows to be always displayed inside of a relatively large Main Menu window. (This is the standard display style used by most Windows software.)

You may also switch between this standard display style and the original CONVERGE free-floating windows display style without leaving CONVERGE.

Student Record Keeping

CONVERGE can keep a record that includes (but is not limited to) the student’s menu choices in the order selected by the student, the functions entered and/or used by the student, the total time spent, and the number and dates of computer sessions. This information is written by CONVERGE to a encrypted file on the student record disk that is used by the student during his or her assignment and then turned in to the instructor, who can read the student record file using a menu choice in the Options Menu of the Profession Version of CONVERGE.

Graph Two Dimensional Vectors

You can define and graph vectors and perform multiple operations with vectors and scalars to create and graph new vectors. CONVERGE also can draw different types of diagrams to illustrate vector and scalar operations. You also have the option to pause between each vector in a multiple vector diagram.

Graph Three Dimensional Vectors

You can graph 3-dimensional vectors determined by vector expressions including vector addition and subtraction, scalar multiplication, and cross products. You may use two different types of diagrams to help you visualize the three dimensional position of the vector, including drawing the i-, j-, and k-components of the vector.

For graphs of both 2- and 3-dimensional vectors, you can also toggle the default for the initial point of the next vector to graph between the terminal point and the initial point of the last vector graphed.

Graph Parametric Equations in Three Dimensions

You can graph parametric equations in three dimensions in a special demonstration mode in which an animated right triangle helps you visualize the three dimensional locations of the plotted points. The vertices of the triangle are the origin, the last plotted point, and the projection of the last plotted point on the xy-plane.wpeD6.gif (2411 bytes)

Tables of Values for 3 or 4 Functions of X

You can generate tables of values, with or without graphs, for 3 or 4 functions of X. To generate such a table without a graph, select Table without Graph from the Algebra/Trig Menu. To generate such a table with a graph present, select Table from the Post-graph Menu.

Improved Printing of Graphs

A combination of several new features provides for much improved graphics printing. These features include larger fonts for the axes numbers, smaller dashes on the axes grid lines, and thicker axes.

Specify Values of Dx During the Convergence of Left- and Right-Hand Derivatives

During the convergence that occurs after you select Left-hand Derivative or Right-hand Derivative from the Derivatives Menu, you may now enter the value of Dx for each secant line in the convergence. In the box titled More (in which you can select 1 More), you can always enter the value of the Next Dx before you click 1 More to get the next secant line.

Insert and Delete Matrix Rows and Columns

You can now select Insert a Column, Insert a Row, Delete a Column, and Delete a Row from the Operations Menu of the Matrix Calculator. The menu choices enable you to insert new rows and columns at any location as well as to delete any existing row or column.

Use of the Ins Key to Transfer Text

The Ins key can be used in the standard Windows manner to copy and paste text via the clipboard from one text box to another. (<Ctrl+Ins> copies selected text to the clipboard and <Shift+Ins> pastes text from the clipboard.)

Thick Axes Toggle Option

When the Thick Axes toggle option is turned on, the axes for the 2- and 3-dimensional graphs are drawn thicker than normal.

Smaller Dashes on Axis Grid Lines Toggle Option

When the Smaller Dashes on Axis Grid Lines toggle option is turned on, the axis grid lines are drawn with shorter dashes and more space between the dashes
