Teaching with CONVERGE

"Wherever a graph is needed, be it a test, worksheet, or manuscript, I would recommend that Converge be considered to produce it....Graphs just as good as most any textbook can be incorporated into my tests or wherever needed....Converge is a very good educational software package....With its file system, I can recall my own chosen examples that have been previously filed away exactly as I wanted, and thus well-prepared, detailed lectures or demonstrations are possible." Linda Becerra, University of Houston

Tests and Handouts

Converge is an outstanding tool for preparing graphics to use in tests and handouts, and two clicks can transfer a graph from CONVERGE to your word processor.

You can use Converge to prepare graphics files of high quality graphs, grids, matrices, tables, triangles, and other diagrams for direct import to your word processor. (These graphics files can be saved in many different formats and color depths.)  You can also save the entire screen or any subrectangle of any CONVERGE window in a graphics file. (CONVERGE for DOS has a special interface with EXP for DOS that enables you to easily export screen files, at precise print dimensions you input, directly into EXP without ever having to run the EXP graphics library manager!)

Freehand drawing with a mouse enables you to quickly create graphs to support special kinds of test questions and handouts for your students.

Classroom Demonstrations

Converge does an excellent job of supporting classroom demonstrations. Much of Converge is devoted to illustrating mathematical process, and you can use Converge to help students understand many mathematical concepts, definitions, and principles.

Demonstrations can be greatly enhanced by using Converge's telestrating capability. In the middle of activities for almost all menu choices, you can interrupt what you are doing and draw on the screen with a mouse.

Just as important for classroom use, the Converge software was designed around the use of function files, which store entire graphing environments.  Converge comes with over 300 function files, and you may create as many more as you wish to support classroom demonstrations or student assignments.

The Screen Files Menu of Converge enables you to add text, math symbols, and drawings to graphics files.

The screen files menu also allows you to create and show slide shows, including automatic or manual slide shows.

Student Record Keeping

Converge can keep an encrypted record of all of the student's menu choices in the order selected by the student, the total time spent, all the function files used, all the function rules entered, and the number of computer sessions.

Interface with Derive

In case you use Derive, you can easily transfer functions back and forth between Converge and Derive with just a few mouse clicks. (There are two buttons on the Converge Main Menu that serve this purpose.)
